Our Story
In the beginning, prayer meetings were held in the home of Emsley and Alma Bowers in Peachland, NC (1950-1951). A tent was set up on a knoll on Lackawanna Street in the front yard of Emsley and Alma Bowers home and Reverend Ruby Brown held the first revival.
Mr. Young Hawkins Allen gave the land on Highway 74 for the church to be built. The first church was dedicated on November 11, 1951. It had approximately twelve families.
Reverend Henry Garris from Rockingham served as the first Pastor.
The next five pastors were Isam Blake, Wesley Whitaker, J. L. Parrish, Walter Terrell and Andrew Clemmons. Their pictures can be seen in the Founders Hall of the Church.
Ranny Garris became the pastor on August 12, 1961, and his son Jeffrey Lynn Garris became pastor in 2007 and is the active pastor today.
In 1967, the church moved into an old home on Allen Street due to the Highway 74 expansion. On June 2, 1968, the church moved from the Allen Street location to its present location at 66 West Passaic Street which was the Bowers and Sheppard Store.
On May 15, 1971 Prophesy was given by Reverend G. C McCurry to “build and build now” and the sanctuary was built by the men of the church.
Six weeks later the first Convention was held in the new sanctuary with only a particle board floor.
The Sunday School rooms and the Baptistry were completed in 1979.
In 2026 construction was started on the Bell Tower in front of the Church.
And I will dwell in the House of the Lord Forever. Psalm 23:6
